Our Ignite Virtual Coaching Program is a self-guided leadership development program that will help you build a strong leadership foundation. The program is based on our People-First Leadership model first outlined in Sal Silvester's book Ignite! The 4 Essential Rules for Emerging Leaders.

Effective leaders know how to align their teams, foster collaboration, and build team-member commitment. But what often happens is that people get promoted to management positions because of their strong technical skills, and they often get bogged down because they lack the key leadership skills needs to be successful.

It doesn't have to be that way.

The Ignite Virtual Coaching Program consists of 4 modules of leadership training.

People-First Leadership™ Factor 1: Lead by Example

Have you ever respected any leaders whose words did not match their actions? Have you ever had respect for a leader who preached personal values, yet behaved differently?

The fundamental component of People-First Leadership is to Lead by Example. This is the core component that will either establish your credibility or kill it. Just remember: Lack of credibility will prevent you from earning commitment and trust from your team members. Without that, there is no leadership.

In this module you'll:

  • Download and review the book Ignite! The 4 Essential Rules for Emerging Leaders
  • Complete the Ignite Leadership Self-Assessment
  • Review engaging videos and respond to reflection questions
  • Complete an online action plan on our Coachmetrix platform

People-First Leadership Factor 2: Align Your Team

The second People-First Leadership Factor, Align Your Team, is all about getting people to work on the right things. When people are focused on the right things, they are more effective. People-First Leaders generate commitment by doing the following to get their teams aligned..

  • Create and communicate a vision for the team;
  • Establish SMART goals for the team;
  • Help team members develop individual performance goals;
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback consistently throughout the year.

In this module you will view engaging videos and respond to reflection questions to help you craft a vision, create SMART goals and provide feedback to your people. You’ll start to implement your leadership action plan. Additionally, you’ll engage “Supporters” (people who are impacted by your leadership behaviors) with ongoing pulse feedback and feedforward so that you’ll know if you are changing as a result of the program.

People-First Leadership Factor 3: Build Cohesion

People-First Leaders build cohesion by creating a culture that knows how to value and leverage the differences people bring into the workplace. To build cohesion, People-First Leaders...

    • Create a climate of open communication.
    • Understand and value style differences.
    • Create and model team norms.
    • Understand what people need from each other and what frustrates them.

In this module you will view engaging videos and respond to reflection questions to help you understand your different relationships and put norms in place on your team. You’ll continue to monitor your action plan and feedback provided by your Supporters.

People-First Leadership Factor 4: Engage and Cultivate

People-First Leadership Factor 4 is about building employee commitment by engaging team members at an individual level and cultivating them as people and employees. People-First Leaders build commitment by engaging and cultivating their people in the following ways:

  • Recognizing and rewarding their people;
  • Creating a motivating environment for each team member;
  • Seeking and valuing team member contributions;
  • Delegating effectively;
  • Orienting new team members;
  • Encouraging learning and development.

In this module you will view engaging videos and reflection questions to deliver effective recognition. You’ll create a motivation action plan to best adapt to your people. You’ll continue to monitor your action plan and modify it based on the pulse feedback coming in from your Supporters.
